LELE Mexican(a) – 100% Otomi is the first book in the Más México Children’s Book Series by author Criselda Hinojosa. The series focuses on Mexico’s history, culture, and traditions while promoting inclusion and tolerance.
This book LELE introduces children to the most famous doll in Mexico in true bilingual format (English and Spanish). Side-by-side text allows children to learn two languages simultaneously. Bilingual texts also create a dynamic learning environment for group readings, a benefit for family readings or school settings.
LELE is an adorable rag doll. She teaches children that while we are all unique, we also have many things in common. The book includes Parent / Teacher resources, a pronunciation list and activities that help further the theme of “different but the same.”
The story is based on the life of artisan Maria Guadalupe “Lupe” Castro Luciano. All the ragdolls in this book were made by Lupe. It touches lightly on the struggles of the Otomi people and how they overcame challenges through sharing their handcrafts with people outside of their small town in Queretaro, Mexico. In 2018, the state of Queretaro named the Lele doll its’ cultural patrimony.
Although the book is entertaining and informative for children from 6-12, all children at heart will find Lele endearing.
LELE Mexican(s) 100% Otomi is a fixed landscape book. Viewing is most compatible with tablets or desktop computers.
